Medical Examinations (Non-NHS)
Certain services provided by the Doctors are not covered by the NHS and fees are payable for such items as:
- Large Good Vehicle (LGV) and Passenger Service Vehicle (PSV) licences
- Elderly driver licences
- Insurance
- Preemployment medicals
- Private certificates
- Holiday vaccinations
- Insurance claims
- Fitness for sports
Please ask the receptionist for such services.
Charges are payable in advance of the appointment and the British Medical Association (BMA) recommended scale of fees is on display at the reception desk. For further information please see Why does my doctor charge fees?

Medical Certificates
Self-certificates are available from your employer for sickness of up to one week. Any certificate required from the Doctor for periods up to the first week can only be provided as a private certificate for which there is a charge.
Our Practice Nursing team provide the following services by appointment:
We have access to a team of physiotherapists available for all our patients based at Wombourne Clinic. Your doctor will refer you for treatment if he or she feels that you will benefit from physiotherapy.
We encourage all our patients to share the responsibility for their health, both in preventing disease and treating existing conditions.
The Practice Nurse will be happy to discuss your general health with you and offer advice on many issues, including smoking, alcohol, diet, exercise, travel vaccinations and on influenza or pneumococcal immunisation for those at risk.

All of the doctors are pleased to discuss family planning. Please make a normal surgery appointment.
Coils and implants are fitted by appointment only. Teenagers and young adults are welcome to discuss aspects of safer sex and contraception with either the doctor or the practice nurses. However, if you are requesting contraception for the first time, you must see the doctor.
Patient confidentiality is respected at all times.
Our practice nurse holds a weekly baby immunisation clinic. The nurse can also offer advice and information if parents have any worries or concerns about a particular vaccination.

We are pleased to offer our registered patients a travel health service. Our nurse uses up to date information to advise you on your health needs related to destinations around the world. They can administer mandatory vaccinations and provide prescriptions for treatments where needed.
Many people are taking long haul holidays requiring complicated courses of vaccines. To assist you in these requirements please see additional travel health information below.
Booking your Appointment with the Nurse
- Travel Questionnaire:
If you’re planning a trip abroad, please complete a Travel Questionnaire with details of your proposed journey and bring it with you when you attend your travel appointment. (Kindly note that this service is for registered patients only) Travel Questionnaire
- Travel Appointment:
Once you have submitted your form, please book a travel clinic appointment with the nurse, but please leave a week between submitting the form and your appointment so we can process your details.
- Please Allow Plenty of Time:
Patients are advised to allow plenty of time for vaccinations (at least two or three months) especially if traveling to an out of the way place where they’ll be living or working among local people. Some courses of vaccine such as rabies or Hepatitis B need to be given over several weeks.
Prescriptions
If you require a prescription for vaccinations this will be ready to collect 3 working days following your appointment.
Holiday Health
It is always a wise precaution to pack some essential items in case of illness on holiday. Do choose medicines according to your needs and the country you are intending to visit. lf you take prescription medicines regularly remember to pack them too.
You may want to consider packing the following:
- Paracetamol Travel Sickness tablets Plasters and a small crepe bandage
- Rehydration solutions such as Dioralyte, Anti diarrhoeal, for example imodium
- High factor sunscreen
- Anti material tablets, Water purification tablets, Insect repellent
- Condoms and other contraceptives
- Sunhats for yourself and children

Travel Vaccination Charges
We offer mandatory travel vaccinations with no charge to the patient. However the NHS does not cover the cost of all the treatments you may need. Therefore, for other services/vaccinations that are not mandatory you will be advised to attend a local travel clinic.
Malaria Tablets are NOT provided on the NHS and sometimes can be bought over-the-counter or may require a private prescription. The nurse can advise regarding this or you could discuss with your pharmacist.
REMEMBER some tablets have to be started at least one week before you travel and you need continue to take them when you return to the UK for the advised length of time.
A weekly baby and mom clinic is held on Tuesday afternoon. Our doctor will carry out a mother check from 6 weeks if required or baby and mom check at 8 weeks where an immunisation appointment is booked for the baby following this.
Blood Tests
If you are advised by the Doctor that you need a blood test these can either be done at the surgery or you can attend a local clinic. You will be provided with information advising how to book at a local clinic.
Blood tests taken at the surgery are done by the phlebotomist and you must tell the receptionist it is for a blood test, when booking the appointment. IF YOU ARE ADVISED THAT YOU NEED A FASTING BLOOD TEST this means that you cannot have anything to EAT OR DRINK apart from water for 12 HOURS before the test.
Smear Tests
These are used to screen for cervical cancer. By detecting this early it can be better treated. women will be sent reminders for regular smear tests once over the age of 25. Routine smear tests would be every 3 years until the age of 50, after that it will be every 5 years. Smear tests are usually performed by the nurse.
Dietitian
A Community Dietitian provides dietary advice to our patients. Your doctor will refer you if necessary.
District Nurses
Housebound patients receive nursing care from the team of District Nurses who are attached to the Practice.Health Visitors
Midwifery Team
Our midwives are attached to the practice to provide antenatal and/postnatal-care in liaison with the doctors. Further information on the Ante-natal & Post-natal care at the practice can be found here.
Phlebotomist
A phlebotomist is provided by the Practice to do routine blood tests as requested by the doctors or nurses.
Physiotherapists
There are a team of physiotherapists available for all our patients. Your doctor will refer you for treatment if he/she feels that you will benefit from physiotherapy.
Primary Care Mental Health Workers
They provide help and support for people with mild to moderate mental health issues. Your doctor will advise you regarding this service.
